The long-awaited construction of a bridge across the Tonle Sap River in Phnom Penh is almost complete. This will be a significant development in the city, easing traffic congestion that has plagued the area for years.
The bridge will be a crucial link between the eastern and western parts of the city and will also provide a direct connection between two major districts: Russey Keo, National Road 5, passing through the roundabout OCIC Boulevard to National Road 6 in Chroy Changvar. The bridge will contribute to improving the transportation of goods and services across the city.
The bridge has a total length of 922 meters and a width of 20.5 meters. The speed limit on the bridge is 40 km/h.
As the country prepares to celebrate Khmer New Year, the Phnom Penh Municipal Administration announced the temporary opening of the bridge across the Tonle Sap River yesterday, following orders from Prime Minister Hun Sen.
The total cost of the project is about 35 million US dollars. The Overseas Cambodian Investment Corporation (OCIC) undertook the construction of the bridge. The construction company has a long history of involvement in infrastructure development projects in Cambodia.
