With many infrastructure projects in the pipeline, Cambodia is poised for economic growth and regional development.  Modern roads, bridges, and other essential infrastructure are expected to improve connectivity and accessibility within and beyond Cambodia's borders, create favourable conditions to unlock new markets, spur innovation, attract foreign investment, and generate employment opportunities.

Here are a few of the major projects:

1. Techo Takmao International Airport

The Techo Takmao International Airport is currently under construction in Kandal Province and is set to open to the public by 2024. The new airport stretches over a 2,600-hectare plot in Kandal province. Upon completion, this would be the ninth-largest airport in the world and designated as a 4F class airport

2. Siem Reap-Angkor International Airport

The new Siem Reap-Angkor International Airport may open in October 2023, as remarked by the Prime Minister during Khmer New Year. The airport will be connected with an airport expressway directly from the city and will be able to accommodate over 20 million passengers per year by 2050. It will be replacing the current Siem Reap International Airport.

In addition, a study conducted by the China Bridge and Road Corporation (CBRC) for Cambodia's third expressway linking Phnom Penh capital to Siem Reap is expected.

3. Russey Keo Bridge

The Russey Keo Bridge across the Tonle Sap River in Khan Chroy Changva and Khan Russey Keo. It facilitates the flow of traffic and travel of people to help solve traffic congestion. It was allowed by the government to operate temporarily during Khmer New Year.

4. Russey Keo Flyover

The Russeo Keo Flyover was constructed on National Road 5 at the intersection of the road connecting the Russey Keo Bridge across the Tonle Sap River. It connects to National Road 5 and Chroy Changvar satellite city, the purpose is to ease traffic congestion in the area.

5.Koh Pich-Koh Norea Bridge

In February 2023, The Koh Pich-Koh Norea Bridge was 50% complete. The bridge connects Koh Pich city to Koh Norea and the development of Koh Norea Bridge will ease the completion of the satellite city, which will comprise commercial areas, theatres, parks, residential areas, residential buildings, banks, universities, and a medical centre, among other features.

6. Cambodia's Tallest Bridge

Located on National Road No.10 and connecting Battambang and Pursat Provinces with Koh Kong Province, the bridge will be known as Cambodia's tallest bridge, standing at an impressive height of 90 meters.

It spans 530 meters in length with a width of 10 meters. The infrastructure project is nearly 64 per cent complete, with construction having commenced on March 9, 2020, and is on track to be completed by May 2025.

These developments are expected to have a transformative impact on Cambodia's economy, opening doors to a multitude of opportunities and propelling the country towards sustainable development.
